Bulusan Volcano exhibited vigorous steaming activity characterized by dirty white steam plumes that crept downslope towards the west-northwest direction. This activity was observed visually from around 9:00 AM to 9:18 AM today. The dirty white plumes suggest a low energy ash emission. No seismic signal was detected prior or during the event indicating a shallow volcanic source.
Raden Dimaano, head of the Sorsogon Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, said some villages near the slopes of Mt. Bulusan in Juban town had been experiencing minimal ash fall after the ash plume was blown northwest.
Alert Level 1 (abnormal) remains in effect over Bulusan Volcano. This indicates that hydrothermal processes are ongoing beneath the volcano that may lead to more steam-driven eruptions. The local government units and the public are reminded that entry to the 4-kilometer radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) is strictly prohibited due to the possibility of sudden and hazardous steam-driven or phreatic eruptions.
