Cotopaxi volcano emissions reached 1 kilometer high on Monday :
30 MAY 2016. The Geosífico Institute (IG) of the National Polytechnic School reported that this morning there have been several gas emissions and water vapor in the volcano. The height of these emissions have reached up to 1,000 meters above the crater of the volcano.
In addition, the report #151 on the state of Cotopaxi, released by the IG Monday, it was reported that the internal activity of the volcano is low, and that the columns of gas and steam going towards the west and east of the volcano.
Moderate rain yesterday, Sunday, May 29, 2016, caused a lahar that affected secondary road Agualongo Clough, in the Cotopaxi National Park. In the evening hours more rain was registered in the volcano area, but caused no damage, according to the IG.
The Cotopaxi volcano has remained active since August 2015.
The internal activity of the volcano is low.
The rains yesterday afternoon, generated two secondary lahars that have been recorded.
This morning several emissions of water vapor and gas with heights up to 1000 meters above the crater were observed.
TECHNICAL AND OBSERVATIONS APPENDIX
From 13:00 (TL) yesterday until 13:00 (TL) today, 33 volcano-tectonic events (VT) and 3 events long period (LP) were recorded.
Observations of emissions and ashes:
In the morning, the volcano sector has discovered and several emissions of gases and water vapor were observed up to a height of 1000 meters above the level of the crater, with west and east directions.
At the moment the volcano is cloudy and the rain falls in the area.
Gas: The value of sulfur dioxide emissions is 906 tons / day, with 2 valid measurements.
Rain and lahars:
The rains in the volcano sector generated two secondary lahars yesterday afternoon, who filed materials on road Clough – Agualongo.
This report contains data and observations from 13:00 hours the day before to 13:00 on the date of publication (24 hours).
In the case of an increase or a change in the behavior of the volcano, it will be published a special report.
