The internal activity, based on seismicity is considered to be high and the surface activity as moderate.
An overview of Cotopaxi by scientists of IGEPN on board of an aircraft of the Air Force Ecuadorian on August 18 showed continued emissions but few energy of ash and steam, which are diluted on the west side of the volcano without reaching a significant altitude. No lahar, or pyroclastic flow are identified; some of summital glaciers are covered with gray ash.
Seismicity: From 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m it was recorded 110 long-period events (LP) and 75 episodes of tremor emission.
Observations, emissions and ashes: In the afternoon, at 6:24 p.m. yesterday, an emission of ash to a height of 700 meters above the crater, drifting westward was reported. Currently, the volcano is clear and emission are observed with an ash content, down the western flank of the volcano because of the wind.
It was not observed an eruption column rising from the volcano, or reports of ash fall.
Rains and lahars: There was no rain.
