Fuego volcano, 50 km southwest of the capital of Guatemala, Tuesday reactivated its eruptive activity with explosions and ash release, stated the National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction (Conred).
The colossus of 3,763 m above sea level located between the departments of Chimaltenango, Escuintla and Sacatepequez, recorded its tenth year of eruptive phases, said David de Leon, spokesman from Conred, an institution in charge of civil protection.

The official explained that the volcano has lava flows, volcanic expulsion of gases and ash up to 4,700 meters above sea level, but said that initially do not need to evacuate nearby villages.
« We keep in constant monitoring of the volcano with local authorities and community leaders before any additional changes that have reached the volcano, » said De Leon.

For his part, the Institute of Volcanology instructed the civil protection authorities to step up monitoring of the volcano and recommended to the Directorate General of Aeronautical take preventive measures for air traffic.
Last February, the Fuego volcano eruption recorded a powerful forcing the authorities to declare a preventive alert and close the airport in the capital by the ash, which also affected the colonial city of Antigua Guatemala.
