Subject: Weekly Bulletin activity of Galeras volcano.
The level of activity of the volcano remains at: LEVEL YELLOW (III): changes in the behavior of volcanic activity
Following the monitoring activity of the Galeras volcano, the SERVICIO Geologico COLOMBIANO, the OBSERVATORIO VULCANOLÓGICO Y SISMOLÓGICO OF PASTO (SGC-OVSP), noted that:
Compared to the previous week, there was an increase of seismic events, from 49 to 140 events. The volcanic activity has been dominated by earthquakes associated with the fracturing of rock materials. Most of these events were located in or near the volcanic crater with epicenters to a distance less than 1 km, depths less than 3 km, from the summit of Galeras (reference level over 4200 meters) and magnitudes between M 0.1 and M 1.6 on the Richter scale.
For the period evaluated, the value of the maximum flow rate of sulfur dioxide into the atmosphere from the active crater, was 310 tons / day, on November 10, which is considered low for the Galeras volcano.
For most of the evaluation period, favorable weather conditions have allowed to observe the emission of white columns, low-lying and spreading out under the conditions of prevailing wind regime in the region.
The SGC-OVSP continues to oversee the evolution of the volcanic phenomenon and report on changes that can be recorded.
