‘Significant decline’ in Kick ’em Jenny seismic activity.
Orange alert remains in effect at this time.
The UWI Seismic Research Centre (SRC) issued the following update around 9:30 a.m. on Saturday via its Facebook page.
« Since 4:00 p.m. 24th July to 6:30 a.m. 25th July, there have been less 20 earthquakes associated with the Kick-‘em-Jenny system. This represents a significant decline in the level of earthquakes associated with the activity so far. »
The SRC, which monitors earthquakes, volcanoes and tsunamis for the English-speaking Eastern Caribbean, said it will continue to monitor throughout the day to develop a better understanding of the current state of the system.
On Thursday, the islands of Barbados, Grenada, St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Trinidad and Tobago were placed on orange alert after heightened seismic activity was detected around the Kick ’em Jenny volcano, 8 km north of Grenada. On Thursday night, a small eruption was recorded by the SRC, in addition to the first one recorded on July 22.
It is understood that the orange alert remains in effect pending a further update.
