Activity remains intense on Nyiragongo, as shown in the video of Jeremiah Franchetti, already author of several documents for LAVE about the eruption of Nyamuragira in 2011-2012. The video confirms the images posted previously by the Observatory of Goma. A vent shows a beautiful strombolian activity on the first terrace on the crater floor. During the most intense episodes, lava flows in cascades into the lake.
The fracture which is the active mouth seems not to have moved. This is desirable because we know that this is when the flanks of the volcano are cracking that lava becomes a real danger to inhabited areas. Fractured areas on the outer flanks of the volcano are certainly less spectacular that the lava lake, but it is nevertheless them that request a greater oversight.
Regarding the secondary wells in the crater of Nyiragongo volcano, it continues to show a very intense activity. This is evidenced by:
– Important lava fountains that continue to flow from the well.
– Lava flows that continue to spill on the third platform
– A spill of this flow in the main well was observed.
Regarding the main pit of the Nyiragongo volcano, though the lava is concentrated a little lower, it also continues to show a very intense activity with lava fountains observable to the north and east.
