Hardly the second phase of the eruption of August 24 completed, the Piton de la Fournaise snorts again. Since the cessation of activity on Saturday to 15 pm, the volcano observatory began recording again signs that might indicate that the volcano does not stop there: its sensors monitoring network recorded a “very slight seismicity “, indicated yesterday in the evening Philippe Kowalski, deputy director. This is mostly superficial events (slightly above the sea level), with some collapse in the Dolomieu crater. But a deep earthquake (- 6 km below the sea level) was also located.
A situation somewhat similar to that which then followed the end of the first phase of the eruption on Sunday one week ago. A plume rose intermittently yesterday still above the cone éruptif.La second phase of the eruption lasted less than forty-eight hours between 20 pm Thursday and Saturday around 15 hours. It ended almost as abruptly as the first, in minutes.
The volcano alert Orsec device (current eruption in the pen) was still in force last night. Access to the enclosure is prohibited, as is access to trails leading into the peak area of Bert, due to the fire caused by the cast in the wall and that affected the top. The Volcano Observatory facilities were affected and should be checked on Monday.
