In the last 24 hours the seismic records of the monitoring system at Popocatepetl volcano registered 64 low-intensity exhalations. During most of the time covered by this report the volcano has been covered by clouds, so the characteristics of all emissions could not be verified; some of them were accompanied by steam and gas. Yesterday afternoon a continuous steam and gas emission was observed . Besides, 12 low-to- moderate intensity explosions occurred; the ash emissions reached a maximum height above the cráter of 1 km and were displaced towards east . No reports of ash fall so far.
At the time of this report the volcano is already covered by clouds.
The other monitoring parameters remaing unchanged.
CENAPRED emphasizes that people SHOULD NOT go near the volcano, especially near the crater, due to the hazard caused by ballistic fragments .
This type of activity is included within the scenarios Volcanic Traffic Light Yellow Phase 2.
