The Ecuadorian authorities change the alert level of the volcano Tungurahua.
24 March 2016. The alert level of the volcano Tungurahua has changed from orange to yellow after a decline in its eruptive activity, according to the National Secretariat for Risk Management (SNGR).
The decision comes after the analysis of the activity and volcano monitoring showing a moderate level of eruptive activity since February 29 and according to the latest bulletins of 22 and 23 March.
With this change in alert level, governors and mayors of the area of influence of the volcano in the province of Tungurahua will update the contingency plans and scenarios available depending on the change in alert level.
Tungurahua rises to 5,020 meters above sea level in the province of the same name. The volcano, whose name means “throat of fire”, is one of eight active volcanoes in Ecuador.
The volcanic activity of the Tungurahua was reactivated in 1999 and eruptive process has continued until today. this activity has had several violent episodes, especially in 2006, which caused considerable material damage because of ash that have damaged crops and killed animals.

Observations emissions and ashes:
The volcano remained completely cloudy, there is no observation at the surface.
Rain and lahars:
There was no rain or lahars.
If the rains become more intense in the volcano area, they can re-mobilize deposits from pyroclastic flows and lahars generate. For this reason, we recommend extreme caution when driving on roads and highways that cross the gorge through which these flows are down and the regions which in the past have been affected by this kind of phenomenon
