The internal and surface activity of the Tungurahua volcano increased since November 9, 2015. The activity was characterized by long periods of emission tremor, seismic stations of the volcano are sometimes saturated. In addition the eruption column reached up to 4 km altitude, falling ash affecting populations located to the west, northwest and southwest of the eruptive center. It was possible to observe a glow, at night and hear roar causing vibration of the windows in the areas surrounding the volcano. The deformation recorded by the inclinometer of Retu station (3900 m) indicates an accelerated deflation, may be related to the rise of magma .
From 20:00 (local time) on November 9, 2015, seismic activity of the volcano Tungurahua showed an increase compared to the level observed in recent weeks. Subsequently, on November 10 to 3:00 p.m. there was an increase of the amplitude of tremor episodes of emission, saturating the nearest station for an hour. Besides 5 small explosions between 11 and 12 November were recorded. Finally, since the early hours of November 13 ,the tremor emission remained , saturating the station for more than 12 consecutive hours.
Emissions with low to moderate load of ash have been constant since Tuesday, November 10, 2015. The eruption column reached a height of 4 km and drifted north, west, northwest and southwest (Washington VAAC).
When the weather of afternoon and evening were favorable it was recorded the incandescent material emission , dropped to 500 meters below the crater and were observed from different points around the volcano.
The values of SO2 emitted by the volcano have also shown changes in recent days, reaching a record high of 2751 t / day at the Pillate station, Tuesday, November 10, while the average value of the measured gas emissions last week was 540 t / day.
