Seismic swarm records over 80 quakes between the Turrialba and Irazu volcanoes last weekend
26 APRIL 2016. The Volcanological and Seismological Observatory of Costa Rica (OVSICORI) shows an image of the area where seismic activity on Saturday and Sunday was recorded. The tremors originated in an area classified by experts as a fragile area.
Analysis by OVSICORI indicate that the seismic swarm was caused by the internal activity that presents in the Turrialba volcano, especially by the movement of materials. The proximity of local faults generate earthquakes. Residents of communities near the volcano reported feeling some of the tremors.
The Turrialba volcano continues to eject gases and so far shows no change. The experts will not lower their vigilance.
