Ubinas volcano registered a new explosion today and sent ashes over local communities in the Moquegua region of southern Peru. The Volcanological Observatory of the Institute of Geological Mining and Metallurgy (Ingemmet) reported that the eruption has sent ashes over Querapi, Ubinas, Escacha, Tonohaya, Sacohaya and San Miguel villages.
The explosion was recorded at 12:15 p.m. today and emitted a moderate plume of ashes and gases that reached about 2,000 meters above the crater of Ubinas volcano.
The ashes dispersed over a distance of 10 meters to the southeast toward the mentioned villages. About 600 families live near Ubinas volcano within a radius of 12 kilometers.
