The authorities continued to tighten security around the red zones of the area around Mount Sinabung in Karo district in North Sumatra, to prevent local residents to penetrate in dangerous areas. « Neither local residents nor the refugees of Sinabung eruptions are allowed into the villages located within a radius of seven kilometers around the volcano, » said Lt. Col. Asep Sukarna, head of the task force of the eruption of Mount Sinabung , cited by Antara on Sunday.
He said that the authorities applied the ban after the volcano showed a fairly high intensity of eruption in the last days, spewing hot clouds and volcanic ash. « The pyroclastic avalanches devastated a number of villages, such as Bekerah, Mardinding and Sukanalu. It is very dangerous, and local residents should not make any attempt to enter their villages, « said Asep.
He said that several villagers were surprised to have secretly tried to enter the restricted areas via the bunds between rice fields. Local people should be aware that entering the villages in the danger zone, they put their lives in danger. « We do not want death, caused by pyroclastic flows and volcanic materials, affecting the local residents, » said Asep, who is also the military commander, Karo District. Asep said that about 500 soldiers were deployed to prevent people from entering the premises of hazardous areas.
« The military are themselves in areas considered very safe and do not enter restricted areas, based on the recommendations of PVMBG.
Until Sunday, the number of evacuees from Sinabung has reached 10,606 people, 3,121 families from 11 villages.
